It is said
that Chanderi saree is one of the most distinctive sarees that hails from the
Nimar region of Madhya Pradesh and it takes its name from the town of Chanderi.
This is a light-weight saree having the delicacy of sheer gossamer that is
further combined with the qualities of both silk and cotton.
The
understated regal quality that the Chanderi sarees have eventually makes them
popular as a perfect everyday saree. The most important characteristics that
the Chanderi sarees possess are the finely textured fabric, old weaving
technique and gold woven borders.
Chanderis
are made on a pitloom having three or at times more than three shuttles.
Jacquard attachments are also made to be available in some cases. The
traditional Chanderi sarees were hand spun and in the past these sarees were
hued off-white and often lighter shades were used. The borders were woven by
means of interlocking the weft.
Chanderi
sarees are woven in both silk and cotton. These sarees are ranged from Rs. 2,000
to Rs. 8,000.
